Today & Tomorrow is a charity organisation which was set up in 2009 by celebrity Hairdresser and Beauty Therapist Janet Ginnings. The charity aims to support single parents and their children living in marginalized areas in the UK.
Having lived in a council estate Janet has had first hand experience of living in a deprived area and is no stranger to the struggle of being a single parent. Janet has had often noticed that children and young adults would hang around in corners and the playground rather than be at school. At times this leads to developing bad habits and behaviour which can be quite intimidating for other estate residents or even away from their own surroundings .
Some of these young kids end up pregnant at a very young age. There are a few cases where generations of the same family follow the same pattern of life , they get pregnant at a very young age and continue to live in the council houses and claim benefits for the rest of their lives.
Coming from a council estate, Janet wanted to provide a better life for her kids and herself and broke out of her circumstances and went on to become a successful business person. Janet strongly feels and believes that all these young adults need is direction and guidance. With the proper mentoring, sky is the limit for these young kids and it will help break the dependency cycle.
Janet says “Great Britain has been good to me and is my home and I want give back by opening a school for hair and beauty.”
The school will help train young adults and single parents to get back to work and teach them about the work ethics and values required to be successful in their chosen field of work. The team at the school which will be headed by Janet will mentor the students through their job interview process as well. The school will provide an outlet for these young kids and single parents to channel their emotions and creativity into a career that can set them on a path to self dependency and success.
